Baking Soda – Household Products Destined to be Your Next Beauty Essentials (Part 3)

Baking Soda

Everyone has a box of baking soda either in the kitchen, fridge or laundry room. This very basic product has a number of amazing uses in the beauty department as well. If possible it is best to use an aluminum free baking soda, but if that is not available to you then it is fine to simply use any kind of baking soda you would find in a grocery store.

Baking Soda Exfoliant

The first use for this basic household item is that it makes an amazing exfoliant, both for facial skin and the body. For the face, start by measuring out about a tablespoon full or just dump a little pile into your palm. Add a bit of water and gently scrub your face, avoiding the eye area and massaging with gentle pressure. Do this for a minute or two, and afterwards your skin will feel so soft. You will also notice that your skin tone seems brighter, youthful and more clear. Exfoliation is an important step in skin care. The removal of the dead skin cells that accumulate is important to allow the skin to renew and regenerate itself.

Make a Cleansing Scrub with Baking Soda

Another way to use baking soda for your face is to mix it with your facial cleanser to make a cleansing scrub. You can make body scrubs this way as well by mixing the baking soda with either lotion or a liquid soap or shower gel. Your skin will feel so smooth afterwards. If you are doing an at-home manicure for yourself, an important step before applying polish or buffing the nails is to scrub the nails to remove dirt and excess cuticle gunk from the nail area. Mixing baking soda with any oil like olive or coconut oil will do the job perfectly. Just massage the fingertips with the oil and baking soda mixture and it will smooth out the cuticles and nail bed.

Soothe and Soften Your Skin

Adding baking soda to your bath is a great way to soften your skin and also have a bit of a detox simultaneously. Baking soda can soothe itchy and irritated skin, it also helps the body to detox radiation, heavy metals and alkalizes the body. For an amazing detoxifying and rejuvenating bath, add 2-3 cups of sea salt, 1-2 cups of baking soda and some drops of your favourite essential oils. This combination will clear away stress, negative energy and leave your skin feeling so smooth and soft. Being relaxed and peaceful is one of the other great secrets to having amazing skin, so make sure to take some downtime for yourself whenever you can.

Cleaner, Whiter Teeth

The final tip for using baking soda for beautification is to use it to brush your teeth with. The exfoliating quality of the little granules will gently wipe off plaque and residue from your teeth and it also has some whitening properties as well. You can either use straight up baking soda or make your own toothpaste by combining the baking soda with water and peppermint or spearmint essential oil. Your mouth and teeth will have never felt cleaner!

Next time you want to do a mini facial or have run out of your favourite beauty products, look no further than the kitchen cupboard. Baking soda will leave your skin, nails, and teeth feeling and looking amazing.
