Hi, I’m Michelle
My passion for holistic health and self-discovery has led me to many exciting opportunities and interesting studies around the world.
My first big endeavour to learn more about health and healing was my enrolment at the International Academy of Natural Health Sciences in Ottawa, ON, Canada. There, I obtained a Natural Health Counsellor (NHC) Diploma as well as Certifications in Nutrition, Herbalism, Reflexology, and Iridology.
Although I learned a lot from my studies with the I.A.N.H.S, I found that I lacked understanding of the more subtle levels of healing, so I also pursued training in the energetic healing modalities of Reiki and Healing Touch Therapy.
After the extra training, I spent some time working as a Health Advisor and Massage/Reflexology Practitioner. That work led me to want to know more about the business side of things as I had a desire to one day own a retreat centre. I held a successful position as a Spa Manager in Vancouver BC.
Over time, however, I realized that I still felt incomplete in my understanding of holistic health, so I enrolled at the School of Ayurveda and Panchakarma in Kannur, India. I walked away with a Diploma in Ayurveda and a better understanding of how our health is affected by our environment, and that the consideration of mind, body and spirit is essential when we talk about health and healing. I found work as an Ayurvedic Therapist but longed to spend more time developing my spirituality.
The following year, I went to Thailand to study at AgamaYoga, where over a three year period I completed 900 hours of yoga training, 400 hours of related workshops and participated in numerous silent meditation retreats. To date, I have spent a total of over 170 days in silent meditation and have not regretted a minute of it.
Soon after I returned to Canada from my yoga studies, I thought it was time to take a step out of the inward reflection and focus on my career again. However, life had another plan for me; in 2013 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins disease. The diagnosis was an unwelcome shock, but it did provide me with many opportunities to reassess my life and get my priorities in order. I am still in recovery from cancer, but have made amazing progress in my healing of my journey with it; after some extreme ups and downs in my healing process, I feel more balanced than I ever have.
A major component to my recovery was my decision to follow my heart’s calling to explore how expression and creativity would serve my growth and healing. I am currently in the second year of my Masters Degree program in Expressive Arts Therapy at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee Switzerland, and with a local module provider in Vancouver, Canada. Expressive Arts has really been an essential piece in my understanding of what true health and wellness is and it has given me a sense of aliveness that I can easily integrate into my daily living.
In my desire to share what I have learned in my years of explorations, I have made this website with the hope that I may inspire others along the path of my ongoing learning and growth.
