Cutting Ties: A Simple Technique for Getting Rid of Emotional Baggage

Life consists of so much more than the physical world; even though we cannot “see” it, we are connected to one another on an energetic and emotional level. Each time we interact with another we make an exchange on the more subtle levels of our being and even after we physically separate from the other, energetic and emotional ties remain. Energetic cords are not restricted by space or time, so you can be connected to someone far away, a person from your past, or someone who is no longer living.
An emotional or energetic tie is an structure of energy between 2 people which causes patterns from the past to constantly be relived. These ties are often refereed to as cords of attachment because they are an open channel between you and another person which energy and emotions flow without your conscious knowledge. You are literally “attached” to each other on a subtle level.

While it is necessary to have some ties in every relationship, it is important to differentiate between the beneficial ties and the destructive ties. Everyday we exchange energy with friends, partners, parents, children, siblings, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. In these interactions there are bound to be instances where we may feel hurt, misunderstood, betrayed, judged, or insulted. We are often not aware of how much energy we spend on these experiences which may ignite emotions such as fear, anger, or resentment. If we do not resolve and forgive these moments, we continually leak energy to these incidents and keep negative patterns alive.

How to Prevent the Embarrassment Caused by Gas and Bloating

Intestinal gas, properly called “flatulence” or commonly referred to as “farting” “passing gas” or "breaking wind” is an embarrassing problem. Most people do not want to fart in front of others because farts not only smell horrible, they often lead to an awkward silence after one has squeaked (or erupted!) it's way out from between your cheeks.

Bloating is often experienced along with flatulence, and can also be means of embarrassment. If anyone has ever asked “When are you due?” at the sight of your bulging belly you know what I mean here. It's not fun to explain that you are not pregnant and the bulge they see is actually due to that bean burrito you ate for lunch.

Don't worry, there are ways to deal with the embarrassment caused by gas and bloating. Below are some common ones, but feel free to use your creativity and come up with some more.

Change Your Mind – How to Get Rid of Unhealthy Thought Patterns and Feel Better About Yourself

If we pay attention to our daily thoughts, we begin to see how many self-criticisms, and unhealthy beliefs we impregnate into our subconscious mind everyday. These thoughts can take the form of criticisms about our appearance, a lack of confidence in our abilities, feelings of guilt for taking time for ourselves, or a resistance to taking steps to better ourselves. In every person, there is at least one area where they are hindering their evolution.

Limiting beliefs and thought patterns repeat themselves for days, weeks, or even years. In some cases people enforce the same limiting thought patterns throughout their entire life, never giving themselves the chance to blossom.

We have a tendency to become our own worst enemies, but we can change this by altering our thought patterns. Instead of letting your mind limit you, use it as a tool to help yourself gain confidence and achieve more fulfilment in your life.

Is Time Spent on Facebook a Help or a Hindrance to Your Personal Development?

I have recently discovered that I have a very strong disgust for facebook and regular facebook users. Feeling negative feelings towards anyone or anything is never a good thing to carry around in ones aura, so I thought about what good things facebook has to offer. I can acknowledge that facebook is not completely evil; it is a tool which when used at the right time for the right reasons, can be very beneficial to oneself and those who are connected to them via facebook.......but I still can't help getting a little annoyed at the whole facebook culture when I see so many people using this tool for unhealthy or mundane reasons.

I really love to see people make the most of their time and to use their energy for things which are beneficial to themselves and others. Much time is wasted on social networking platforms such as facebook, and I feel it is a tragedy. This is time that could have been spent contributing to much larger, more important issues in their lives, their community, and the world as a whole. Constant facebooking should be treated as an addiction like any other because it prevents people from living a deeper more meaningful life.

There are many reasons why one would use facebook. I categorized all the ones I could think of under two headings: “good reasons to use facebook” and “not so good reasons to use facebook” Under the “good reasons,” I listed the ways that facebook can help you develop in the areas of business marketing and social contacts, or as a way to share valuable inspiration. In the “not so good reasons” there are listed some rather unproductive reasons or superficial excuses that people may use when justifying their facebook usage.

Enema formulas can range from simple salt water to more complex herbal or medicinal preparations. Lesser known enemas include the introduction of oil into the colon for the purpose of lubrication and the elimination of certain symptoms.

Using Melatonin to Eliminate Jet Lag

Jet LagJet lag is a common frustration for many travelers. We experience jet lag because our body's natural rhythm has been thrown off by traveling through many time zones in a very short period.

There are many symptoms one may experience with jet lag, but the most difficult obstacle associated with air travel is the inability to fall asleep in the new time zone. We are unable to fall asleep because our body is used to producing melatonin at our old bed time, not our new one. This will correct on it's little by little everyday, but we can assist our bodily rhythms and ensure a full nights sleep by supplementing with melatonin. Adjusting your bodily cycles more quickly will also reduce the other symptoms of jet lag such daytime drowsiness, irritability and disorientation.

How to Eliminate Symptoms of Jet Lag

Flight

Why do we get Jet Lag?

Jet lag is caused by a disruption of the body's sleep and wake cycles (circadian rhythms) due to rapid travel through several time zones. Our circadian rhythms control the release of hormones in our body which let us know when to eat, sleep, and wake up. This disruption in the body's natural cycles can cause difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep at night, as well as daytime fatigue, disorientation, lack of coordination, and irritability. Because adjustment to the new time zone occurs gradually, symptoms of jet lag may last for several days.

The extent one will feel symptoms of jet lag depends on the number of time zones crossed. Travelling more than 5 times zones at once seems to effect people more. The direction of travel also has an impact; travelling in an eastward direction is shown to cause more severe jet lag than travelling westward. When we travel east we shorten our day, moving further from our natural rhythm, whereas, travelling west extends our day and does not have as much of an impact on our natural cycle.

Jet lag is certainly an nuisance in anyone's travel intinerary, but there there are many things which can be done to minimize it's effects:

How to Overcome Sleepiness in Meditation

Drowsiness during meditation is a common problem especially in people who are new to meditation. This happens because the state of sleep and the state of meditation share similar qualities; both meditation and sleep involve the cessation of physical and mental activity and the withdrawal of the senses. However, in sleep we are in a subconscious state and in meditation we are  in a state of super-consciousness (or we are at least aiming to achieve a state of super-consciousness).

It is very important that one does not let themselves fall into a state of subconscious sleep while meditating. In meditation you should be awake and mindful. If you are consistently drowsy in meditation, this is not real meditation. You will not become more aware or gain new insights if you are letting yourself nod off during your meditation session. Although, the drowsy state can be peaceful, this is different from the peace we experience in meditation which is more dynamic. In meditation we stay aware and alert, in a state of harmony. Remember, the purpose of meditation is to wake up! Letting yourself nod off is counter-productive.

Don’t be discouraged if you are getting sleepy during your meditation, it happens to almost everyone at one point or another. With patience and practice your meditation will become stronger and this obstacle will disappear. It takes dedication, concentration, will power, and some experimentation to get there, but once you figure out what works for you, sleepiness will no longer be a problem in your meditation.

By following the advice below you can find out why you are experiencing drowsiness in meditation and take the necessary steps to overcome it. [Read more →]
